Artist Mike Saijo installation represents the memories and the stories of the Shipibo Conibo tribe, whom he spent time with during a recent trip to Peru. He traveled to the country to study plant medicines and to go on a 10-day diet.

Saijo used the help of a local radio station to gather poems and short stories submitted for his installation, which also includes a textile piece created by Shipibo women and a portrait series he created.

Saijo will launch a campaign in June to raise money to publish a poetry book that will be translated in English and Spanish. His goal is to publish 5,000 copies to give to students to learn English and Spanish in Peru, as well as create an audience in America who is interested in learning about “indigenous wisdom and mythology.”
